The confirmation that Regé-Jean Page would not resume his role in the series “Bridgerton” left millions of fans heartbroken who fell in love with her more than obvious charms in the first episodes. Although the actor himself has clarified that he always knew that the plot of his character would begin and end in the first season, until now there was hope that he would make at least one “cameo” in a family event, as he does in the romantic novels in the which is based on the production of Netflix.
The creator of the series, Shonda Rhimes , has now ruled on this possibility, clarifying that the books dictate the development of the script, in the sense that each of them focuses on a different couple, and who would not feel comfortable “forcing” their actors to appear practically as extras.
“We want the interpreter to have an incredible experience and tell the story you’re telling authentically, and not say, ‘Oh, can you come and make this little appearance?’ Would that be satisfactory to you? Is it what the actors want to do? He has already done his part for history ”, he pointed out during a round table organized by The Hollywood Reporter .
On the other hand, Shonda does not understand why Page’s absence has caused such a stir when he has “killed” many other male leads that the audience adored in their previous professional projects without facing so many complaints. Furthermore, as he cannot resist pointing out, the Duke’s story was perfectly closed in a way that, in his humble opinion, should have been more than satisfactory.
“I was excited by the idea of being able to tell a complete romance that has an ending, in which you don’t have to find others 14 reasons why the couple can’t be together or frankly put Regé at the bottom of romance of another person. That doesn’t make sense ”, he added.
