Joss Favela does not believe what his eyes see: his monumental-sized image on the screens of the iconic corner of Times Square in New York. It is an advertisement from Amazon Music promoting the new album by this singer born in a lost town in Sinaloa, Mexico.

It is about “Llegando al rancho”, the third album by Joss, who to his 30 years is considered one of the most influential singer-songwriters in regional Mexican music. Excelled more than 13 years ago as a composer –bands such as El Recodo and La Arrolladora recorded their songs–, and for five years his career as a singer has been paired.

This new album, recorded with a band sinaloense, includes 13 themes, all written by Joss. And it is a kind of tribute to the place where he was born and where he lives to date: Caitime.

“Some were written in a pandemic, others not,” he said. the interpreter. “This record is love made into music.”

Joss never imagined living anywhere other than his ranch, even though he had to spend long periods of time in Mexico City when he was chosen to participate in “Fame Code”, a reality show that was intended to promote new talents in music.

When the reality show ended, And when he was still a teenager, he wrote his first song that would later become the subject of a Mexican soap opera. Even so, he was a total stranger to the bands of his land, so on the day he made up his mind, he hugged – because the handle on the case had fallen off – his guitar and planted himself in the Banda El Recodo office in Mazatlán. , also in Sinaloa. The accountant took pity on him after making him wait eight hours.

“I remember it was Friday,” said the singer. “Well, he asked me to come back on Monday because he wanted the representative to listen to me, so there I am going to spend again on the truck back to Caitime and then again to Mazatlán.”

The trip was worth it because the band asked Joss for a song; Since then, on all El Recodo albums there are songs of his.

Almost at the same time, the overwhelming Banda El Limón and Larry Hernández began to record their songs. You could say that the author was already part of the big leagues.

But Joss had always sung, that was his passion. He even has a video of when at age 5 he performed a song at his grandparents’ diamond wedding celebration. So after making a name for himself as a songwriter, he started recording his own songs.

Now he can boast that his two careers go hand in hand, something that does as happy as living on the ranch with her parents. His great dream now is to have children to raise them with the freedom with which they raised him.

“I want to stay here,” he said. “I want my children to have that freedom and can enjoy beautiful things. ”
