At her young age, Mia has had to face very difficult challenges and yet she has never left her dreams behind.
Mia dreams of being a princess like Snow White and like her, She is cheerful and friendly, always showing her love to the people around her. Leaving a trace of love among those who know her.
One day, after running and playing in the park in her native country, Nicaragua, Mia began to feel cramps in her leg. The cause was found to be neurological. Mia had a cancerous brain tumor called anaplastic ependymoma.
The diagnosis was devastating for the family.
“The world fell on me,” said Jorge, her father . “The first thing my wife said to me was, ‘We’re going to fight.’ We would fight until the last moment. ”
After undergoing surgery in Nicaragua, Mia was referred to St. Jude where, as part of her treatment, she received proton therapy.
“St. Jude has given us everything. The flight from Nicaragua to here, food, lodging, medicines, treatment, everything that is needed. We have not had to pay for anything. It’s a dream come true, ”said Valentina, Mia’s mother.
And the fact is that families like Mia’s will never receive a bill from St. Jude for any of the services they receive.
Despite all the difficulties Mia has gone through, she has never stopped smiling.
“The desire to move on, the dreams have never left them,” said her Mommy. “She always talks about tomorrow.”
Mia loves to put together puzzles and play with Lego and dolls. Her favorite is Snow White, like the princess she wants to be.
