The Los Angeles Music Center, in collaboration with Dance Magazine, presents Inside Look: M isty Copeland and Dada Masilo — changing narratives in dance, an in-depth conversation at the that Copeland – first dancer of the American Ballet Theater – and Masilo – South African dancer and choreographer, share personal anecdotes of two powerful women of color who have navigated and conquered the complicated world of dance.
In this virtual conversation the two dancers will also talk about how they have broken barriers and fought against misconceptions about what a dancer’s body should be like, as well as the stories of the repertoires. This will be a Dance Magazine exclusive broadcast and will last 30 minutes. Those interested can register in advance at dancemagazine.com. This week the Latin Alternative Music Conference is held virtually, an event dedicated to promoting alternative music in Spanish. In the six days that it lasts – it ends on Friday -, it presents the highlights of Latin music as well as the sounds of artists and groups that begin and that interpret genres such as rock, hip hop and electronic.
In this year’s edition there will be panels, workshops and musical presentations. Today, for example, in the panel The creative process in times of pandemic, artists and composers such as Eduardo Cabra, Alizzz, Áureo Baqueiro, Guaynaa and Carla Morrison converse. The pop opera quartet, Il Divo, will offer a live show this weekend to celebrate Mother’s Day. Urs Buhler (from Switzerland), Sébastien Izambard (from France), Carlos Marín (German raised in Spain) and David Miller (from the United States) will perform in a concert that can be seen all over the world.
The group will perform some of their best-known hits, as well as classic songs and songs from “Timeless”, their most recent album, which was Recorded in Los Angeles. This album includes ten love songs, among them “Smile”, based on an instrumental piece where “Modern Times” was used, a classic film by Charles Chaplin from .
