Burger King will use eco-friendly materials to serve their food

The famous hamburger chain, Burger King seeks to be more environmentally friendly so it is replacing the plastic and cardboard with which its products are served by more ecological materials.

This change is part of the “ecological packaging pilot program” which will be released in more than 50 restaurants in Miami, Florida, the company announced a few days ago.

Alternative materials are made of cardboard, covered with plant-based plastic, napkins made with fiber 100% recycled.

Additionally, Burger King will test paper and plant-based straws, along with lids that do not require use of straws.

According to the firm, make use of these materials, could delete up to 500 million straws of p lastic in one year , a situation that would be favorable for the environment.

Additionally, Burger King is also testing two wrap options for its Whopper sandwich that would represent a 13% and a 34% less paper compared with their current wrappers .

According to Fox News, Matthew Banton, director of innovation and sustainability at Burger King, said that the company is optimistic about progress in terms of commitments to ecology and sustainability .
