MIAMI – A murder that shocked the South Florida community ago 17 years has become current again after the murderer, a Hispanic who was serving a life sentence, died in a state prison.
The murderer, Michael Hernández, had 14 years in 2004 when he took a classmate, Jaime Gough, into a school bathroom Southwood Middle School . There he stabbed him more than 40 times and cut his throat.

Hernández told police that he kept the knife in a hidden compartment or from his backpack and then headed to his class. Following trial, the perpetrator was convicted of murder in the first degree in 2008 and later sentenced to life imprisonment.
The victim’s parents, upon meeting news of the death of their son’s murderer, they assured that they were not happy about his death, the one they had to go through.

The Miami-Dade County State’s Attorney’s Office, charged with prosecuting the case, also reacted to the news. “The brutal murder of Jaime Gough ended a promising young life and forever marked his family .
