The luck of Cruz Azul: the VAR is used for the first time in the Concachampions and takes away a goal

As of the quarter-finals of the CONCACAF Champions League , the implementation of the VAR was agreed. Coincidentally, the first time that video refereeing came into action was in the match between Toronto and Cruz Azul … and it played a trick on the ‘Cement Machine’, canceling a goal for offside .

The minute passed 22 ′ and the game was tied at a goal. The Canadians had put the tables on the scoreboard just two minutes earlier. After two touches in the area, the Paraguayan Juan Escobar sent it to save to put the 1-2.

But the VAR made its first appearance in the ‘Concachampions’ to review an apparent offside of the central defender. The Costa Rican Ricardo Montero approached the monitors to check and finally made the decision to cancel the second goal of those directed by Juan Reynoso .
