A Hispanic Houston Sheriff And Trump Critic To Be Nominated By Biden To Be ICE Chief

TEXAS – Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez has dedicated much of his life to public service In the Houston area , he served for many years as a Houston Police Officer before becoming a District H Councilman. to represent one of the most Hispanic sectors of the fourth largest city in the country.

The trajectory of González was undoubtedly decisive for the president Joe Biden will announce this Tuesday that it will nominate González to be the head of the Office and of Immigration and Customs Control (ICE).

González will be nominated by Biden to take the Reins of ICE, according to the White House, the official currently serves as sheriff of the third largest county in the country, a position he has held since January of 2017.

González has a title Professional in Criminal Justice from the University of Houston Downtown and previously served as a Houston Police Officer for more than 18 years.

After retiring from the Police Department in the year 2009, González ran for District H councilor and was elected as in the 2010, in this position he was at front for six years.

During his campaign for the post of Sheriff Harris González promised to revoke the agreement that the county had reached with ICE to enforce the program 287 g, which delivers more quickly to the immigration authorities the people detained by that local authority and who are in the country illegally, and complied with it.

González, in addition, was in clear opposition to the indiscriminate raids carried out by the Trump administration and led by the agency that he could now direct.

Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo congratulated González on his nomination and said that “I will be sad that he leaves us, but President Biden will win a compassionate, thoughtful and courageous leader.”

The Biden government also nominated Gina Ortiz Jones, who ran for the House of Representatives in Washington in 2018 Y 2020, on behalf of the Electoral District 23 of Texas, as Assistant Secretary of the Air Force in the Department of Defense.
