Elizabeth Miramontes has entered the operating room more than a dozen times since she was a baby, that is why arriving at her 15 years alive and celebrating it with a family party, made her dance and cry with happiness.
“I am thankful because after so many things we have been through, God allowed our daughter to reach his years ”, says her mother Martha Miramontes.
Elizabeth was born on 17 April of the year 2006 in Los Angeles. She is the youngest of four children of Martha and Vicente Miramontes, immigrants from the state of Zacatecas, Mexico.
“I realized that Elizabeth It was different because when you put her to bed when she was a baby, she didn’t shoot. He stayed in the same position. ”
Upon being evaluated by the doctors, they discovered that she had been born with a condition called achondroplasia, a bone growth disorder that causes one of the most common types of short stature.
“At 11 months after she was born, she had surgery the largest bone he ever had to remove a small bone that made his back bend “, says his mother.
After that intervention, Several more surgeries came to the ear because the doctors found that he suffered from hearing loss. “At three years old, she was operated on because her right eye was twisted. I had what is known as a lazy eye. ”
Elizabeth has managed to overcome almost all of her health problems. Today you only have to deal with sleep apnea, a problem that causes your breathing to stop and restart while you sleep. To alleviate this disease, doctors recommend that those who suffer from it, put on a mask connected to a machine, which allows them to breathe well when sleeping.
No bullying
Martha says that when she was told that her daughter would be small, what most distressed her was the bullying. “Oh, how my daughter is going to suffer!” He thought.
However, he admits that up to this moment he has not been subjected to teasing. “My concern is the bullying in high school, but during his freshman year at Workman High School, classes have been online due to to the pandemic. So everything has been fine. ”
Sometimes, her mother admits that it is annoying to observe how children are looking at her with great curiosity when they go out on the street. “I ask them, do you know her? At that moment they stop seeing her. ”
As she entered adolescence, Elizabeth has shut herself up a lot and hardly wants to go out. “It’s like she’s ashamed,” her mother considers.
Once she says that her daughter asked her why she was born short and that his siblings and parents are of regular height. “I replied, Diosito chose you that way.” Since then, Elizabeth has not asked her anything again.
Martha remembers that she got pregnant at the 41 years old and doctors gave her the option of a test to see the condition her daughter was coming in . “I refused to take the exam and made him see the doctor that he would accept my daughter as she came.”
Despite all the problems health issues that have come their way, Martha says her daughter can do everything, but slowly. “For example, he cannot walk long distances because he gets tired.”
Happy 15
Elizabeth always had the illusion of celebrating his 15 years with a mass and made him. The religious celebration was in the Iglesia San Luis de Francia in the city of La Puente. But not everything was there. Family and friends mobilized to throw a party for him. “My sister put the music on; a friend, the cake; another, the tacos; One more lent us the house, and so they all contributed something. Her godfather Nino Mendoza came from Arizona and her godmother was my niece Ashley Hernández ”, says her mother.
At her quinceañera party, Elizabeth looked out of a fairy tale in a pink dress and sparkling crown. “Everything went well. It was a family celebration. She accompanied us to the nurse who was in labor when my daughter was born. ”
Elizabeth shyly confesses that the happiest moment of her 15 years was when he danced with his father. Although he also enjoyed dancing with his godparents and even with his wrist.
“I really liked my party of 15 years ”, he says.
And she reveals that she has two big dreams, to work taking care of animals as an adult, and one more that she hopes will come sooner, to go to a concert by her favorite band, the Australian pop group ‘5 seconds of Summer’.
Elizabeth is known in her community for her charisma and kindness which has made everyone call her “La Chula.”
Araceli González-Burkle, a friend of the family who was invited to the quinceañera party, says Elizabeth is “quiet”, but good and noble. And she is amazed at the confidence she has in herself. “He is not self-conscious about his small stature and he always has a captivating smile. “It is very easy to become fond of her.”
