A new product is suffering the effects of the pandemic and it is the famous seasoning Old Bay marketed by McCormick & Co ., Which has become a favorite for Americans who now have to cook at home.
When the coronavirus pandemic started last year, seafood seasoning flew off the shelves and ever since the company has been struggling to keep the product in stock , revealed its CEO.
“Oh my God, the demand for Old Bay has been extraordinary and we have had a hard time keeping up . And even now, it’s one of those items that we’re still struggling to keep in stock. Demand is just high for favorites like that, ”McCormick Chairman and CEO Lawrence Kurzius told Yahoo Finance Live.
In 2020 the company reduced the storage of other products to keep a bestseller offering on the shelves, such as Old Bay.
“We hired 1, 400 additional people, mostly in our supply chain and we’ve added roughly the equivalent of a brand new factory by changing shift patterns and bringing in human resources, ”Kurzius said. “And so today, we are finally past the worst assignment time, and we are rapidly approaching 50 remaining% of all items we had suspended. You should see that the shelf position really sped up. ”
Although many companies are suffering the ravages of the pandemic due to a lack of supplies or a drop in sales, of 35% last year , and apparently the need to cook at home has made users stock up on their favorite condiments.
“Consumer demand has been really strong throughout the pandemic, and still is”, Kurzius added.
Despite the fact that this spice blend has been on the market for decades, users continue to maintain great loyalty to the product, as the Old Bay website crashed last year when they released a special limited edition called Old Bay Hot Sauce.
In order to 2021, McCormick expects sales to increase between 8% and 10%. Earnings are tied to 5% to 7% growth over last year, according to Yahoo! Finance.
