Basketball star, Magic Johnson , celebrated after know the verdict in which the former police officer who took George Floyd’s life was found guilty of murder.
“Thank God… guilty! Justice has been done ”, Johnson said with joy through his account on the social network Twitter.
Former official Derek Chauvin was found guilty of second degree unintentional murder, third degree murder and second degree murder arising from the event that occurred in May of 2020 in Minnesota, indicated TMZ .
Moments after the verdict was read and Chauvin was arrested, athletes from around the world spoke about the case in social networks. NBA Commissioner, Adam Silver , also issued a joint statement with NBPA Executive Director Michele Roberts. “ George Floyd’s murder was a flash point for the way we view race and justice in our country, and we are pleased that it seems that justice has been done, ”he said. LeBron James had a short but forceful reaction in reference to the verdict, writing on Twitter, “LIABILITY.”
Renee Montgomery , former WNBA player turned co-owner of Atlanta Dream He said: “Let’s make this the new normal. The responsibility is served ”. Mike Tyson did the same, stating “guilty. Justice has been done”. On the other hand, Matt Barnes offered words to the victim’s relatives, “condolences to the Floyd family. This is only the first step to begin to change a broken system ”.
Reggie Miller stated “Thank you JURY! RESPONSIBILITY”. Matt Forte said “I do not celebrate the disappearance of someone else’s life no matter what they have done, but I do celebrate JUSTICE, TRUTH AND JUSTICE because for so long it has been empty of the criminal justice system in America for blacks and dark people “. Torrey Smith emphasized “I can’t believe what I just saw. They finally got a correct case. GUILTY !! Prayers for the Floyd family ”. Isiah Thomas , former NBA star: “Crying with tears in the eyes right now, maybe things are changing in America? ” The Minnesota Timberwolves also released a statement saying the team “ is hopeful that today’s decision will serve as a step forward, but will not alleviate the physical and emotional pain that continues in an environment where systemic racism exists. ”
