Paolo Maldini, director of Milan’s sports area, asked “ forgiveness to the fans who felt betrayed ”for the failed creation of the Soccer Super League , which had the Milanese team among the founding partners, and highlighted that he was never “involved in the talks” prior to its launch.
Paolo Maldini to Sky: “I’m the director of AC Milan and I didn’t know anything about the # SuperLeague project. I want to say sorry to the fans again. There was confusion. Sport is about dreams and meritocracy: we have to take this as a lesson ”. 🔴 # ACMilan

“I want to emphasize that I was never involved in the talks about the Super League. I heard about the Super League on Sunday night, after that joint statement . It’s something that was decided at higher levels than mine, “Maldini told” Sky Sport “in the run-up to the league match against Sassuolo.

“The fact of not having been consulted does not take away my responsibility to apologize to all the fans , not only those of Milan, who felt betrayed by the fundamental principles of the sport that in Milan we have always respected ”, he added.
Maldini, a player who conquered five Champions Leagues with Milan , did not hide his strong opposition to the Superliga, announced last Sunday night and that, less than three days later, it has already lost nine of its founding partners, including Milan himself.
“We have to ask ourselves if this can teach us something. How far can we go? We cannot change the principles of sport , made of dreams that should be open to everyone ”, stressed.
