The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) reported that more than 700, 000 Americans will receive a supplemental stimulus payment, while continuing to process tax returns for 2020.
These payments, which the IRS refers to as plus-up or additional, will be sent to taxpayers who received a third stimulus check based on their income of 2019 , but qualify for more money based on your statements of 2020.
The agency estimates that it will send more than 1, 200 millions of dollars in supplemental payments, much of which should have made it into bank accounts by the 14 April.
The IRS promised to send these supplemental payments earlier this year, when the start of the tax season coincided with approval of the American Rescue Plan and a third stimulus payment .
The IRS encouraged taxpayers who expected a larger stimulus payment based on their return of 2020 to file their taxes as quickly as possible, but the agency began disbursing payments before processing many of the returns.
The first supplemental payments were sent earlier this month , and the IRS plans to continue to send them on an ongoing basis to all who are eligible, as it continues to process returns of 2020.
The IRS reported that another 2 million payments began to process on April 9, many of the c Those were for veterans who do not file taxes and taxpayers for whom the agency did not have bank account information, but who filed tax returns.
In total, the IRS has sent approximately 159 million payments during the third round of stimulus payments, valued at more than $ 376, 000 million dollars.
