Minneapolis continues with protests and curfews within a week of Daunte Wright's death

One week after the death of the young African American Daunte Wright

, at the hands of Minnesota police, protests and curfews continue in Minneapolis .

The night of this Saturday, the City of Brooklyn Center declared a night curfew from 23: 00 hours, local time, and until 6 in the morning of this Sunday before the constant demonstrations in the city.

Friday on Brooklyn Center, a residential area northwest of Minneapolis, experienced its sixth night of protests and altercations after Wright’s death, where the police registered a hundred detainees.

That Friday night was the first in the whole week without a curfew after the death of the young African American last Sunday.

So far in the case of the death of Daunte Wright , the ex-agent Kim Potter , who resigned this week after 26 years of service , for involuntary manslaughter in the second degree, and was charged with manslaughter with a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison in Minnesota.

Former agent Potter, who had to leave her home for fear of being attacked by angry protesters, could receive a lesser sentence than the years in jail for lack of a record.

For his part Brooklyn Center Police allege that Daunte Wright’s death was accidental, because Kim Potter wanted to use a stun gun known as a “taser” to immobilize the youth of 20 years, but he got confused and “accidentally” fired his firearm.

Daunte Wright’s death occurs in a context where tension and spirits are fired by the trial that is being carried out against the police officer Derek Chauvin, who killed fellow African-American George Floyd last May, sparking a series of protests across the country.

The death of the young African American of 20 years also already led to mobilizations and protests in other cities in the United States such as Tucson or Auckland.
