The pandemic accelerated some plans that seemed a bit far off, such as the use of robots, but the future has caught up with us and Domino’s Pizza will begin to deliver its products in vehicles that do not require human drivers
There is no doubt that the coronavirus pandemic came to cause a revolution in all aspects and accelerate projects that seemed somewhat distant in time. The delivery of pizzas were not spared and a new and revolutionary commercial episode is about to begin.

Domino’s Pizza and Nuro, a Silicon Valley robotics startup, presented a new way of delivering pizzas via vehicle small low speed to transport packages in Houston this week, with which they seek to consecrate themselves as pioneers in robot-assisted delivery and thus take advantage of the increase in online orders by Covid – 17.
Cosimo Leipold, Head of Partner Relations at Nuro, explained that the delivery service will begin at at Domino’s store in Houston , expanding to “many customers in many locations” as part of a long-term association between both firms.
As antecedent, since both companies said that expected to launch robotic pizza delivery by the end of that year , but according to the Nuro spokesperson, together with Domino’s they took a measured approach to prioritizing a secure deployment to minimize problems.
Leipold commented that Nuro has partnered with retailers such as Kroger Co, Walmart Inc, and CVS Health Corp to deliver food, and that their weekly deliveries almost tripled in the first three months of the pandemic .
“In general, It is difficult for large companies to hire enough drivers to meet their demand for delivery , “said Leipold, noting that the robot company has been ahead of other autonomous driving startups. to obtain regulatory approvals for the deployment of vehicles on highways .
It should be noted that last year Nuro obtained regulatory approval from the United States to start the unmanned delivery service. “Houston’s roads create challenging scenarios for our technology to work,” said Leipold . Remember that Houston has one of the highest road death rates in the country.
Nuro is a technology company founded by two former Google engineers at 2016 , raised $ 940 million dollars from the SoftBank Vision Fund and recently raised resources from Woven Capital, the mobility investment arm of a subsidiary of Toyota Motor Corp.
Domino’s Pizza is an American fast food company founded in 1960. Currently has more than 14 , 500 establishments (more than 5, 000 only in United States) and is set to 89 countries.
