AMLO urges the US Congress to pass immigration reform “quickly”

The president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, made a “respectful appeal” to the United States Congress to approve the immigration reform bills “quickly” and insisted that development cooperation is key to curbing the wave of migrants.

“Because of this crisis, I respectfully urge you to do it quickly, soon. Because President Biden is asking for 4, million dollars, and they got it to approve in Congress. Hopefully they will hurry, because we must address the causes “of migration, said López Obrador in a morning conference from the National Palace.

Andrés Manuel López Obrador regretted that many migrants travel accompanied by minors and gave as an example a “rescue” of migrants this week in southern Mexico, when they were intercepted crowded in a truck to 131 Hondurans and 18 Guatemalans, being 28 of them minors.

The past 18 of March, the United States House of Representatives approved two immigration reform bills that seek to regularize about 4 million undocumented immigrants, mostly young people known as “dreamers” and agricultural workers.
