President Biden is expected to announce Thursday a government action plan to address the damage to public health caused by gun violence and to help control violence in the country.

Recent mass shootings in Boulder, that claimed the lives of 10 people, and Atlanta, which claimed the lives of eight people , including six Asian women- Americans, highlighted the seriousness of this violence in the country.

The United States also has a historical rise in homicides , and Violence also disproportionately affects minorities.

The President Biden became engaged during his campaign elect oral to take steps to reduce all forms of gun violence : community violence, mass shootings, domestic violence and suicide with firearms.

And while Biden continues to urge Congress to pass legislation that helps control gun violence, his Administration is preparing to carry out actions that lead to control and prevention of gun violence:

Among the actions that Biden will take will be ordering the Department of Justice to begin drafting:

1- A rule to help stop the proliferation of “ghost weapons”, which are those that criminals can easily assemble from weapon components and are not registered.

2- A rule that clarifies when a device marketed as stabilizing support becomes You effectively use a pistol in a short-barreled rifle, subject to the requirements of the National Firearms Law

The alleged shooter in the Boulder tragedy last month appears to have used a pistol with a brace arm , which can make a firearm more stable and accurate while remaining concealed.

3- The Department of Justice will offer legislation “red flag” model for states

Red flag laws allow family members or law enforcement to apply for a court order temporarily prohibiting people in crisis from accessing firearms if they pose a danger to themselves or others.

The president has asked Congress to pass an appropriate national law of “ red flag ”, as well as legislation that encourages states to pass their own“ red flag ”laws. Meanwhile, model legislation released by the Department of Justice will make it easier for states that want to adopt red flag laws to do so.

4- The Administration will direct federal agencies to work on community violence interventions

Community violence interventions are proven strategies to reduce gun violence in urban communities. Biden will lead five federal agencies to redirect funds to help prevent community violence. The Department of Health and Human Services will also help teach states how they can use Medicaid money to prevent gun violence.

5- The Department of Justice will issue an annual report on firearms trafficking

In 2000, the Office of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) issued a report summarizing information about its investigations into firearms trafficking. Since then, lawmakers have relied on their own data on firearms trafficking. But there is good reason to believe that firearms trafficking has changed since 2000. The Department of Justice should issue a new and comprehensive report on firearms trafficking and the necessary annual updates, to provide legislators with the information they need to help address arms trafficking fire at present.

6- On Thursday, The President will nominate David Chipman to serve as Director of the Office of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms

ATF is the key agency that enforces our gun laws and needs a confirmed director to do the job. But ATF hasn’t had a confirmed director since 2015. Chipman served at ATF for 25 years and now working to promote common sense gun safety laws.

The White House confirmed Wednesday night this report of measures to decrease and control gun violence to be announced by President Biden on Thursday.
