Salvadoran sport and world surfing are in mourning after the terrible death of the surfer Katherine Díaz this Friday, after a lightning struck with his humanity while training on El Tunco beach.
Katy Díaz was considered the best surfer in El Salvador , was also the daughter of the president of the Federation of surfing of her country , José Díaz. It was the aforementioned entity that confirmed the death of the athlete, of 22 years old, on social networks.
“A great athlete has left us who has represented to our country. See you soon, great warrior. El Salvador is in mourning, ”wrote the Federation.

Díaz was finalizing details of what was going to be his participation in the ISA World Surf Games, which were to be held in El Salvador del 29 from May to June 6. This event was to serve as a qualifier for the Tokyo Olympics , competition that filled Katy with enthusiasm because surfing was included for the first time in the Olympic sports.

Coach Marcelo Castellanos also said goodbye with heartfelt words.
The wake is held at the Manantiales de Playa El Tunco church. They will also organize a “paddle out” to pay him posthumous tribute.
