Elderly man with burns found dead in his Queens apartment

James Murphy, a 86 year old man, was found died at his home in Queens, NYC, possibly as a result of a fire started by his heater, authorities said.

Police were conducting a wellness check in the apartment located at 86 th St near 50 th Av in Flushing, around 3: 10 pm Thursday, and they needed the help from the FDNY to break down the door.

Once inside, they found the octogenarian unconscious. He was pronounced dead at the scene. There were burns on his body and the chair where he was sitting , right next to a heater that also caught fire, police said.

His The death did not appear to be criminal, but the city medical examiner’s office will officially determine the cause, noted New York Post.
