Former President Donald Trump has privately shared concerns that he could be criminally prosecuted for his role in the January 6 riot on Capitol Hill.

That has been the main reason why he has remained in a low profile since he left the White House, according to a CNN report.

“He’s worried about that,” , said a close adviser to Trump .

Although the ex-president managed to overcome the impeachment against him, there is still the possibility that he will face criminal charges.

Even the minority leader in the Senate, Mitch McConnell (Kentucky), said he considered the impeachment of the former president unconstitutional, but that possible accusations against him could av go to court.

“We have a criminal justice system in this country. We have civil litigation. And former presidents are not immune ”, McConnell said. ” has not gotten away with it yet… President Trump is still responsible for everything he did while in office, now as a common citizen, unless the statute of limitations is enforced, he is still responsible for everything he did while he was in office. ”

Another Republican senator spoke in the same vein, Thom Tillis (North Carolina).

“The maximum responsibility is through our criminal justice system, where political passions are controlled” , he said. “No president is above the law or immune from criminal prosecution, and that includes former President Trump.”

The Justice Department investigations continue; 200 people have been arrested, already accused in different cases.
