The Argentine President, Alberto Fernández , expressed his “Deep regret” and decreed three days of mourning for the death of former President Carlos Menem (1983 – 1999) to their 90 years, occurred this Sunday.
“With deep regret I learned of death by Carlos Saúl Menem “, Fernández published today on his Twitter account.
” Always elected in a democracy, he was Governor of La Rioja, President of the Nation and National Senator. During the dictatorship, he was persecuted and imprisoned “, he pointed out.
“Go all my love to Zulema, Zulemita and all those who mourn him today,” he closed, referring to the ex-wife and the daughter of the deceased politician, respectively.

Meanwhile, an official statement reported that Fernández decreed three days of national mourning starting today on the occasion of the death of the person who was twice elected president of the nation.
Menem passed away this Sunday at 90 years, as confirmed by sources from the Los Arcos Sanatorium in the city of Buenos Aires, where he had been hospitalized since 15 of December pa sado.

Lawyer by profession, Menem was president in two consecutive terms, of 1989 to 1999, after having been governor of La Rioja, his native province, between 1973 Y 1976 -year in which he was arrested after the coup that led to in the last dictatorship (1976 – 1989) – and again from 1983 until he started his campaign presidential for the elections of 1989, which ended up winning.
