Man who killed 1 person and injured 4 at Minnesota clinic charged with murder

The suspect in Tuesday’s shooting at a Minnesota health clinic that killed one person and injured four others was charged with murder, among others crimes, Thursday.

In a criminal complaint detailing the gruesome attack that occurred at a city clinic of Buffalo, northwest of Minneapolis, authorities said Gregory Ulrich, of 67 years, also detonated two explosive devices.

Ulrich was charged with second-degree murder, four attempted murders and one indictment for each use of an explosive device and for carrying a handgun without a permit, CBS News reported.

According to the criminal complaint , Ulrich entered the clinic shortly before 11 am, pulled out a semiautomatic pistol and began threatening staff. He then allegedly entered the reception area and shot two victims, before moving inside the clinic and shooting three more.

The first four victims of the shooting survived. But the final victim, who was hit by a bullet that went through his liver and spine, later died from his injuries, according to the complaint.

Later, the Allina Health health clinic where the attack occurred, identified the victim as Lindsay Overbay, a medical assistant to 37 years I had worked there since November 2018.

“The victim was a mother, a wife, a daughter, a sister,” said Wright County Attorney Brian Lutes, during a morning press conference. “He went to work and did not return home due to the senseless gun violence inflicted by Gregory Ulrich.”

Ulrich is also accused of detonating two bombs in the building, one near the entrance and another inside the clinic. Investigators found a third unexploded explosive near his briefcase, consisting of black powder in a small cylinder, according to the complaint.

At 10: 58 am Tuesday, Ulrich called 911 and told police that he would surrender, according to the complaint.

Police said they found him lying face down at the clinic entrance with his arms outstretched. When searched by the police, he was allegedly carrying two chargers, ammunition, and two marijuana cigarettes, and a preliminary search of his phone allegedly revealed an “inconsistent video message allude to an incident at the clinic.”

“Gregory Ulrich went to the Allina clinic knowing that he was going to shoot that clinic. Gregory Ulrich went to that clinic knowing that he was going to set off bombs at the clinic. He did just that, cowardly wounding innocent people, one of them fatally, ”Lutes said.

Buffalo Police Chief, Pat Budke, He previously said he believed Ulrich attacked the facility because he was dissatisfied with the care he had received.

According to a police report obtained by The Associated Press, Ulrich had threatened previously with carrying out a shooting on the premises.
