Representatives Democrats proposed this Monday afternoon to send full payments of $ 1, 400 dollars to Americans with annual income up to $ 75, 000 Dollars. In this way, they reject a previous plan to drastically cut payments.
The Chairman of the Ways and Means Commission, Richard E. Neal, (Democrat of Massachusetts ) published legislation that would send the full amount to people who earn $ 75, 000 dollars per year or less and to married couples filing jointly and who have a rent of $ 150, 000 dollars or less.
Other Congressional Democrats had explored lowering the rent threshold to $ 50,000 Dollars for individual declarations and $ 100, 000 dollars for joint statements, a position that has been championed by West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin, who is the most conservative Republican. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen spoke of $ 60, dollars.
The proposal comes amid days of disagreements among Democrats on how to structure the next round of stimulus checks, a critical component of President Joe Biden’s $ 1.9 trillion recovery plan. The bill has yet to pass in both the House and Senate and it is unclear whether Manchin or other conservative Democrats will oppose in the Upper House.
“There is a discussion right now about what that threshold should look like,” press secretary Jen Psaki said Monday. “It is still being negotiated at this time.”
The request of Manchin and other Tory Democrats is limit the check Lower Income Stimulus so higher-earning Americans don’t benefit. But from the progressive sectors of the party they allege that even middle-class families have been harmed by the economic crisis that the coronavirus has unleashed.
