Los Angeles County Passes 1 Million Coronavirus Cases and There's More Bad News

The County of Los Angeles reached this Saturday the undesirable figure of million cases of the coronavirus then to report 16, 669 new cases. That means about a tenth of the county’s population has tested positive. But the onslaught of the pandemic presents new challenges.

In addition to indicating that now a total of 1 have been registered , 003, 923 cases and 13, 741 deaths from COVID – 19 , the authorities confirmed the presence of the new strain of coronavirus, the so-called UK virus.

The variant known as B.1.1.7 had already been found in the state; known to be in San Diego and San Bernardino counties. It was a matter of time before it appeared in Los Angeles.

The new strain worries experts because it is believed to be more contagious. The infected person is isolated in the state of Oregon after having been in Los Angeles.

Barbara Ferrer, director of public health for the county, said the variant of the virus is a new threat that occurs when Angelenos hospitals are practically saturated.

A major effort to accelerate vaccination was launched in Los Angeles on Friday against COVID – 19 when Dodger Stadium was opened for that purpose. The plan is that some 12, 000 vaccines are given every day there.
