Walmart announced that it is testing a grocery delivery technology with HomeValet, a company that makes a temperature-controlled “smart box” equipped with a UV-C light that helps to disinfect .

This strategy is being tested by one of the main firms in the self-service trade have a close relationship with the changes that are taking place in the trade as a result of the pandemic of the Covid- 19 .

The test will take place this spring in Bentonville, Arkansas. Customers will be able to take advantage of contactless grocery deliveries at the “ smart box ”, which according to Walmart will be located outside the homes of those who request the service.

Tom Ward, senior vice president of products for Walmart customers, in a publication in the Walmart blog, stated that when it is time to make a delivery, the box communicates with the delivery provider and gives them secure access to the box for delivery.

Ward stated that this strategy represents an opportunity to deliver items to the 24 hours a day, seven days a week. “While we have no plans to deliver 24 hours a day, 7 days a week today, it certainly sounds good, ”the firm’s executive noted.

Grocery retailers have been testing various ways to deliver groceries in a way that is convenient and preserve the freshness of products such as dairy and other items that need to be refrigerated.

In 2019, Walmart introduced the delivery of groceries in the refrigerator of a customer, this prompted Amazon to launch a home delivery strategy similar to that of the self-service company.
