The daily average of the last seven days means an increase of 217% since mid-November, according to the same source, whose figures also suggest that the Five highest peaks of deaths since the start of the pandemic have been in the first weeks of 2021.

In fact, the only time, together with the day of this Tuesday, that the number of deaths exceeded the barrier of 4, 000 in the United States was on January 7, when 4, 194 people died from coronavirus.

As of Wednesday, the United States registers more than 19 million positive cases and more than 327, 000 deaths.

California is the most affected state

Although at the beginning of the pandemic the epicenter in the United States was in New York , in recent months the state of California has been the most affected, both in number of infections and deaths.

Approximately, and according to official data, the 13. 5% of diagnoses in this state are now positive, which translates into more than 43, 000 daily cases.

In addition, California has suffered more than 519 average daily deaths, an increase of 116. 4% compared to two weeks ago, according to data from the Los Angeles Times .

Within the state, Los Angeles County is precisely the most impacted with more than 674. 000 positive and 12, 674 deaths recorded.

Despite the seriousness of the situation, the rate of vaccinations in the country continues to be slower than expected,

according to the governor of California himself, Gavin Newsom , and the mayor of the Los Angeles city, Eric Garcetti.

To try to solve this slowness, Los Angeles will enable this week the Dodgers Stadium, of the local baseball team, as a point to administer the vaccine against the covid- 19.

Vaccination in New York

The city of New York has also responded to this lack of rhythm in vaccinations at the opening of several centers this week that remain open 24 hours for inject as many people as possible, like the one at Brooklyn Army Terminal, which has the capacity to inoculate about 2, 000 citizens a day.

It is an open-air facility, made up of about thirty small booths in which New Yorkers are cared for by two people: one who records all the patient’s data on a computer, and the other who explains the procedure in detail and injects the vaccine.

Afterwards, the newly inoculated goes to an “observation zone”, an austere area delimited with plastic sheets that they offer no shelter from the low temperatures of the Big Apple winter, and in which black plastic chairs have been arranged, spaced apart. After a quarter of an hour, and if the patient has not shown any worrisome side effects, they are free to leave.
