Mother of six loses the fight against COVID

Jorge Girón describes his wife Verónica as a woman “incredible, holy, fair, loving, kind and I didn’t know how to lie. ”

Verónica Guevara-Girón died on January 7 due to complications from COVID – 19, three days after prematurely giving birth to her little Imani.

“She is the woman I love the most,” Jorge said. “Without her, my world is now very different; It is a very hard and sad moment, but I have to move on and I can’t stop because my six children need me. ”

Jorge, a native of Escuintla, Guatemala, told The Opinion that, on Christmas of 2020, his wife felt a lot of pain in her body, she lay down and then she started “with a very ugly cough.”

By January 2, he decided to take her to a hospital. It was necessary for the doctors to review the health status of Imani, the baby that Verónica carried in her womb.

“They told me their oxygen levels were low, that he had bad pneumonia and that there would be a need to get the baby out, ”Jorge said. Veronica was 34 weeks pregnant.

“After the girl was born on January 4; she felt better and we talked on Facetime ‘, she told me she felt tired and that she was going to rest a bit, ”she said. “I told him, I’ll look at you tomorrow.”

The next day, it was 3 o’clock: 00 in the morning and Jorge had to wake up abruptly immediately. The hospital called him to tell him that his wife’s oxygen levels had dropped drastically.

“They told me they were going to put her on an artificial respirator; she left us at 2 o’clock: 47 in the afternoon ”, said the now 38 widower and father of Xavier, 9 years old; Grace, 7; Xiomara, 5; Giovanni, 4; and Trinity, 1; In addition to Imani, a few days old.

One day before she died, Jorge was able to take a priest from his parish, Saint John Eudes of Chatsworth, to his wife, to administer the holy oils.

“My wife was a woman of prayer, a holy woman, a woman for life; he always wanted all his children to be born normally, ”said Jorge Girón. “She was always ready to help women who wanted to abort their children.”

One of those people was his sister-in-law Nathalia, who got pregnant at 18 years and to whom many people advised abort her daughter Aria Luz, who has just turned three years old.

“She helped me a lot with all my problems when I was going to have my first daughter; he was like a guide for me ”, Nathalia appreciated. “I did not know my biological father and she helped me find peace within myself and talk to him later.”

Love of youth

Jorge Girón, an employee of the Department of Health in the city from Los Angeles, he told Real America News that he was chamberlain of honor in the XV years of Verónica.

“We join the 16 years, we quarreled and separated until one day we went to a couples retreat and decided to get married in the church in 2010 ”, said Jorge.

“ But our love grew with the passage of time, and then we came to the conclusion that we could no longer act like children, but in our relationship the most important thing was missing, which is the love and blessing of God; This is how our faith increased and we understood how sacred marriage is, ”he added.

With Imani still in the hospital and five more children at home, Mónica Girón is helping his brother in the housework, preparing food and taking care of them, while Jorge continues with the procedures for the funeral of his wife in the cemetery of the Mission of San Fernando.

In addition, the family has opened a GoFundme account to help pay for the funeral of the victim.

“When I had problems, she it helped me grow; He took the marriage very seriously and later, together we fought for our love and it grew stronger and stronger ”, Jorge Girón concluded. “Together with God in our lives, ours has been a beautiful love story.”
