Moto Dakar rider operated and in an induced coma after serious accident

The motorcycle rider of the Dakar Rally, the French Pierre Cherpin is in induced coma after suffering a serious accident at kilometer 178 on the seventh stage of the rally, causing a head trauma .

After the accident, he was helped by the pilots Francisco López and Juan Pablo Latrach , before of being transferred to a hospital in Sakaka, Saudi Arabia, where has already been operated , as confirmed by the race organization.

Cherpin is a non-professional pilot competing for the fourth time in the Dakar (2009, 2012 and 2015), this time in the original category .

In a first instance, the Chilean pilots who helped Cherpin, caused concern after more than 45 minutes without information from them. It was even feared for a mechanical failure . However, a message from the navigator saying “arriving for assistance” gave notice of what had happened.

Later, López declared: “After several minutes the helicopter arrived to rescue him. They stabilized him and together with Juan Pablo and other people who arrived, we put him on the stretcher and put him on the helicopter. We hope he can recover ”, said the Chilean pilot.
