AMLO announces mass vaccination campaign against COVID-19

With a ceiling of 15 million older adults to protect, the President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador announced that on Tuesday he will begin a massive vaccination campaign against Covid – 19 with 400 thousand doses that require a double application.

“ We are going to start a massive vaccination campaign next Tuesday, because next Tuesday more than 400 thousand doses of Pfizer, and we already have a contract with other pharmaceutical companies, with other vaccines, ”he said when opening a National Guard barracks in Michoacán.

The President specified that 10 one thousand vaccination brigades to immunize 15 million adults older than 60 years.

“ If we achieve this, and we are going to achieve it, death from COVID will be reduced in the Country by 80 percent. That’s what the specialists have told us “, he said.

However, López Obrador said that to date in Mexico, where more than 132 thousand deaths have been registered by Covid – 19, only 60 have been applied only one thousand doses of the Pfizer vaccine , which requires two doses, among the 750 thousand Health workers who were chosen to be immunized first.

Even so, the President trusted that by the end of March not only medical personnel but all older adults will have been immunized.

“ At the end of March we will have all the elderly in the country vaccinated “, he said.

López Obrador acknowledged the effects of the pandemic, although he maintained that despite it the economy is growing and jobs are recovering, but said that the vaccine has given hope.
