After the spectacular head collision between Raúl Jiménez and David Luiz last November, which caused a skull fracture and subsequent surgery , FIFA will implement a new protocol for concussion cases.
The new protocol will be tested at the Club World Cup , which will be held in Qatar from February 1 to 30 and where Tigres will participate representing Concacaf.
In the “Mundialito”, the footballer who suffers a concussion may be substituted, regardless of the substitutions previously made.
“ FIFA confirmed today that the substitution system for concussion or suspected concussion will be tested during the World Cup in FIFA Clubs. This is the first international competition in which the procedure will be applied ”, says the statement sent by the governing body football.
“FIFA will apply a protocol that will allow teams to make one substitution for concussion per game, which can be done regardless of the number of substitutions made up to that moment. ”

After an extensive consultation process, the International Board (IFAB) approved the substitution protocols for concussion at its annual meeting in December with the aim of “making it clear that, in case of doubt, the player must be substituted; prevent the player from suffering a second concussion during the match, which could have very serious consequences; reduce pressure on medical personnel by giving them more time to examine the player; and establish a simple process that can be applied to all levels of football. ”
