Last November caused a stir that the Chivas will open to the public on Akron Stadium for the duel they played against America , since despite being the highest grossing duel in Mexican soccer, the Aztec country, like much of the world, has since been in the midst of a health emergency due to the COVID pandemic – 19 .
With the approval of the Liga MX , the state health authorities, the municipal president of Zapopan and the governor of Jalisco, the doors were opened to the public in the only game that had fans during the Liguilla of the last tournament , this as part of a pilot program to find out if it was feasible for the state to resume some activities paused by the pandemic; However, the results were not as expected by the rojiblanca directive, since there were economic losses for the team.
“ It was very complex and expensive , both, the state government, Chivas and the government of Zapopan. For Chivas , so they can come out with black numbers with the opening of the stadium, I mean all the costs (electric power, public safety, administrative staff and cleaning) need at least the 30 by percent of the total fans, it should be remembered that this game was played with the 12 percent of the public , that is, Chivas lost money, “Pablo Lemus, the municipal president of Zapopan, the region where the Sacred Flock property is located, explained in an interview for ESPN.
” We, as a municipality, send the number of elements of public security, civil protection, the health area with ambulances and nurses as if the stadium had been full , because we wanted to have everything as the security and sanitary measures at 100, so this implied many costs for Chivas and the municipality ”, he said.

However, according to their statements, the positive part was that with this action a message was sent that the return of people to the stadiums is possible under the new normal, with all the security measures, something that they managed to transmit by improving protocols in the United States and other European countries.
“It was worth it because the protocol, we took the best of the protocols from other sides and improved and implemented them here in Zapopan and it came out very well, we sent a message that it is possible to return to the stadiums under a new normality, that the authority is prepared for this type of situation ”, he sentenced .
