Texas Capitol closes after Donald Trump supporters riot in Washington

TEXAS – The Texas Department of Public Safety announced Wednesday that it closed the state Capitol after supporters of President Donald Trump illegally entered the Capitol of the United States in the country’s capital during Electoral College certification.

An official with the aforementioned agency confirmed the closure in a statement .

“The Capitol and the other nearby government complexes are closed to the public immediately,” said Freeman Martin, security director.

“The complexes are closed out of an abundance of caution and protocols will continue to be adjusted to ensure public order and potential threats,” he added.

The closing of the Capitol in Texas comes just two days after it opened after having been closed for several months due to the pandemic. The Texas Legislature was scheduled to begin its legislative session on 2021 in the next few days.
