A courier from UPS was fired, after a house camera caught him making the decision not to deliver the package to a Milwaukee house, because the recipient was a Latino, Hugo Avilés .
The courier did not even ring the bell, just wrote a notice about failed delivery, where he explained why he did not leave the package, reported The Washington Post .
“Now you don’t understand anything, because you’re a stupid s who can’t read and write and speak the damn English language,” wrote the subject.
The recording was made last month, but the story was recently published by the Post.
Activists in Milwaukee held a press conference to ask the company to take action and the company indicated that the messenger or was fired.
“There is no place in any community for racism, bigotry or hatred,” a company spokesperson told NBC News. “This is very serious and we take immediate action, ending the driver’s contract.”
Avilés’s mother, Shirley, said that the messenger’s action against her son of 23 years, who he did not even know, was totally racist.
The post reported that the company wanted to apologize in person to the family, but the mother refused and lawsuits are expected.
