The Palmeiras thrashed River Plate in Argentina this Tuesday by 0-3 with goals from Rony, Luiz Adriano and Matías Viña in the first leg of the Copa Libertadores semifinals and took a big step towards the final of the tournament to be played at the Maracana in Rio de Janeiro on 30 January.
Ronielson ‘Rony’ da Silva Barbosa converted the first goal of the game at 27 minutes with a powerful shot from within from the area that was diverted by a defender, after a gross error in the clearance by local goalkeeper Franco Armani.
At the 47 minutes Luiz Adriano put the 0-2 after leaving on the road to Paraguayan Robert Rojas and define between the legs of Armani.
The Colombian midfielder from River Plate Jorge Carrascal was expelled to the 60 minutes for a strong offense against Gabriel Menino. Two minutes later, the Uruguayan Viña put the 0-3 head.
This match was played at the Independiente stadium, the Libertadores de América, because the Monumental of Buenos Aires is undergoing renovations.
The second leg will be played on 12 in January at the Allianz Parque stadium in Sao Paulo and the final will be before the Brazilian Santos or the Argentine Boca Juniors.
