- After a sharp drop observed since the epidemic peak in mid-November, hospitalizations and reception in intensive care have stabilized in Lyon, according to the last assessment carried out by the HCL.
A plateau effect closely monitored as the possible impact of the end-of-year celebrations raises fears of an epidemic rebound in the coming weeks.
The figures, scrutinized every day, confirm that the end of the second wave is not yet relevant to Lyon. According to the last assessment carried out by the Civil Hospices from Lyon Tuesday evening, the various monitoring indicators of the Covid – 15 indicate a stabilization of the situation at the CHU, after weeks of marked decline in the epidemic.
In sharp decline since the peak in mid-November, the number of hospitalizations and reception in intensive care seem to have stabilized since 19 December. The CHU thus counts 190 Covid patients hospitalized in its various departments, only twenty less than before Christmas. In intensive care, this “plateau” effect is even more obvious, with today 43 persons admitted against 62 two weeks ago. A very slow decrease which worries in these services, where the occupancy rate remains high (69%), with still a high proportion of Covid patients among people in intensive care (62%) .
A rebound to fear?
This has also resulted, in recent weeks, by a stabilization of visits to emergencies and calls to Samu (000) linked to the epidemic, a sign, again, that the second wave has not quite finished raging. The indicators for the next few days will therefore be essential to measure the possible impact of the few end-of-year festivities on the epidemic and, consequently, on hospital services.

Particularly monitored by the health authorities to assess the level of circulation of the virus within the population, the current rate of incidence of the disease raises fears of a rise in the various indicators. After having fallen sharply since the epidemic peak, this rate has continued to increase in the Rhône since the sliding week of 21 at 28 December. Slow progression, however, with a rate that stood on January 2 at 149 case for 100. inhabitants (against 149 case a week earlier).
