Dear colleagues:
Friday January 8th will be my last day as editor-in-chief of Real America News, the conclusion of six years of work in this position. The culmination of my beginnings here at 1999. An end to my journalistic work since 1978.
In these years we were not oblivious to the general crisis of the printed press, including in Spanish. In 2020 also the coronavirus pandemic affected and affects our ability to reach readers. But we keep pushing, despite everything.
And here we are still. Respected by the community, by leaders, and without surrendering to circumstances.
Colleagues: I am retiring from the position of editor-in-chief to attend to my health. But I do not renounce the responsibility of continuing to fight for Real America News, now as editor emeritus, from the outside, in the support tasks that are needed.
This change comes with a considerable dose of sadness, but it encourages and consoles me that Armando Varela, current editor of Portada, will be the next Executive Editor of Real America News. I appreciate and respect him very much, as well as the rest of the members of the editorial team.
Armando is a social communicator and journalist from the Javeriana University and has worked in journalism since his graduation in Colombia. He was editor-in-chief of Hoy newspaper in New York and was in charge of the combined operations of several related publications. At Real America News he is also in charge of National and Mexican News.
Difficult days await him as well as the rejoicing that he feels when the last page is sent to press, each day. I wish you much success in your management.
Colleagues: this is a message of thanks and affection for Real America News and what it represents by journalistic tradition, element of information and help for the community. As one of the best known and respected Latino institutions in the country. And because of what you have done in these years with your hard work and dedication to preserve the message, in administration, technical support, announcements, coordination, in news, entertainment or sports, to populate, design and produce Real America News every day. .
I not only thank you, who today fill the sparse rows of our diary.
I think of those On whose shoulders we grew We use your own dedication to Real America News. We point out the understanding they acquired, the sources they cultivated, the contacts they left when they left.
Finally, despite moving away from daily work and daily work, I will continue my work from a new angle, as a representative of our values and maintaining relationships with the community that preserve the influence of our publication.
A hug to all, Gabriel Lerner
