The Christmas present will arrive a little late. In a few days or weeks, the village of Vaiges, located in Mayenne , will see its budget increase considerably. As announced by the newspaper West France, a man, who died in May at the age of 20 years old, chose to bequeath part of his fortune to the commune of nearly 1. 200 inhabitants. The donation amounts to one million euros.
Marcel Montillet, originally from Lyon, lived in the Paris region but had a strong attachment to Vaiges, where his wife had been a refugee during the Second World War. Without descendants, he wished to thank the village, where he and his wife are buried. According to the newspaper Les Alpes Mancelles , several projects are being considered thanks to this sum, which represents one third of the municipality’s annual budget. The cemetery and the public garden, which will bear the name of the generous donor, will be particularly embellished. The creation of a skatepark is also being considered.
