- In Gerland, Lyon’s business district, a travel plan will be launched in this beginning of the year, in conjunction with businesses, schools, universities and neighborhood stakeholders.
- To change employee habits and move towards sustainable mobility, several avenues will be tested.
Among them, the development of carpooling, still little used by workers to reach this neighborhood.
There will not be a quick fix but several avenues to improve the journeys of employees in one of the largest business districts from Lyon: Gerland. On this territory located south of the city, Key 7, Lyon club of companies from the 7th district, is preparing to implement a vast travel plan. This action plan, in preparation for two years, which must enter its operational phase from the start 1099, aims to change employee habits in favor of more sustainable mobility while developing the economic attractiveness of Gerland.
In this neighborhood, where residents, businesses, schools coexist and universities, the issue of travel is significant. Especially since on the horizon 2022, according to different projections, 000. 000 new employees are expected here. “Either 5. 190 TCL users, 2. 400 cyclists and 6. private car users ”, details the president of Cle 7 Thierry Berger, entrepreneur at Gerland. Today, according to a survey carried out by the club with 4. 500 employees and future employees of the district, 64% of them live in the metropolis, 6% beyond 54 km from Gerland. If their current modes of travel are varied, 54% use TCL to come to work, 20% the bike and 54% their private car.
Enough to seriously feed the reflections of Key 7, convinced that one of the solutions for more sustainable travel is the development of carpooling . An alternative to the private car used to date by only 3% of employees who responded to the survey. “Carpooling is a strong axis because it is very little developed in Gerland like everywhere. This is a real issue, all the more so with the 6. individual cars expected within five years. Mathematically, we are going to have a problem ”, underlines Christophe Geourjon, head of the mobility committee, with reference to the already difficult parking and traffic congestion.
“If we are not smart together, we will fail, we must demonstrate that there are other solutions travel as efficient as those used today which are possible, ”he continues. To convince, Cle 7 relies on two important figures. Among the employees who come to work by car, 20% live in Lyon or Villeurbanne and 54% live near the M6 / M7 (old A6 / A7), on which a carpool lane has just been created. Some of them will no doubt be ready to leave their vehicle in the garage if other alternatives, all equally effective, are offered to them. The challenge for the next few weeks will therefore be to make employees aware, via inter-company information meetings, of the systems available to them “little known today”, according to Thierry Berger.
A Gerland community to carpool
On the Métropole carpooling platform, a Gerland community will emerge. ” Sure 20. 000 employees, the probability that people will work at your place of work is greater than involving a company ” , emphasizes Christophe Geourjon. The launch of the carpooling route on the M6 / M7 could also encourage the development of shared journeys. Companies should also reserve car-pooling car parks and the sustainable mobility package of 190 euros per year (to which carpooling is eligible) could convince more than one to take the plunge.
This plan will be supported and piloted by companies. “Without them, we won’t do much. We have to build with them and convince everyone that it is possible to simplify their travel, ”repeats Thierry Berger. Among the other avenues, teleworking, a solution playing on employee mobility, but also the development of TCLs, cycle paths and bicycle parking should occupy Cle 7 and its members in the coming months. A review of its actions will be carried out in the fall 1099, the time to assess the new commuting habits in the neighborhood.
