At least ten people were injured on Sunday at Lebanon by an explosion in gas storage warehouses in a border area of Syria , the Lebanese Red Cross said. The country is already recovering with difficulty from the health and economic crisis and
from the terrible explosion of 4 August.
Several illegal border crossings intended for smuggling are located in this area.
An explosion caused in particular by gas storage
An army spokesperson told AFP that the explosion was caused in particular by “the storage of gas cylinders in warehouses” in the Lebanese region of Hermel, near Syria. The Lebanese Red Cross, which dispatched several teams to the area of the village of Qasr, reported ten wounded.
The powerful Lebanese Shiite movement Hezbollah is often accused by local parties and media of running a smuggling network on the border with neighboring Syria, where he is militarily involved in the conflict.
This porous mountainous area is conducive to trafficking, which has intensified since the start of the war in Syria, a country hit by shortages and asphyxiated by a depreciation of its currency and Western sanctions. For Lebanon, the question is all the more crucial as the country, in the grip of its worst economic crisis in decades, subsidizes fuel or flour to avoid soaring their price on the local market in a context of hyperinflation.
