Nine nuns died of coronavirus in a New York convent

Nine nuns in an upstate New York convent died from COVID-related causes – 19 in little more than a month.

The nuns lived in the “Sisters of St . Joseph of Carondelet ”in Latham, reported Albany Times Union.

“Four of the deaths associated with the congregation had previously been reported by hospitals earlier this month. The other five were not reported by the facility to the Albany County Health Department, ”said Commissioner Elizabeth Whalen.

The convent is home to approximately 140 nuns. Last 11 December the congregation reported that 22 religious sisters had tested positive for the coronavirus, according to a memorandum obtained NBC News.

A similar situation was reported in December in a convent in Wisconsin , where Eight elderly nuns died of complications from COVID – 19 in the same week; four of them on the same day.
