A decline, which the prefecture predicted “very slow”, began this Saturday in the Landes , locally plagued by of historic floods, but without victims or any evacuation, since Friday. The department remained on Sunday in flood orange vigilance, for sections of the Midouze, tributary of the Adour, and of the Adour in the sector of Dax . With the saturation of the soils, the sustained precipitation of the last days, linked to the
storm Bella caused strong floods there.
The overflows remained significant this Saturday morning, but the levels are no longer progressing and the decline has started in particular in Dax and Mont-de-Marsan, the Vigicrues site indicated. But this decline will be slow, and levels should remain high throughout the weekend. The flood peak was reached everywhere, from Friday in Dax for the Adour, Mont-de-Marsan for the Midouze, then Saturday at 5 a.m. for the small town of Tartas, on the Midouze, with a peak of 4, 02 m, level never reached since 02 th century, indicated the prefecture.
370 intervention date Friday evening
No intervention was however necessary there during the night, and three firefighters’ boats remained positioned on the spot, with lifeguards in white water, within the framework of the device, added the prefecture in a statement. Friday evening, the firefighters of the department had carried out at least 310 interventions related to floods since the beginning of Sunday of the rising water phenomenon, mainly water exhaustion, draining of cellars, and around thirty evacuations.
The absence of precipitation announced on Saturday should favor the recession, and a depression announced on Sunday, with showers on the coast then more moderate inland, should not have an impact on the current recession in Midouze and Adour, according to the prefecture. The situation was also slowly improving on the road network, with four roads reopened, and 20 secondary axes closed to traffic on Saturday, especially in the center and south-west of the Landes, against about sixty in the middle of the week, and 65 other roads remaining under surveillance, according to a point in the middle -day.
