What if a climate bomb was under our feet? In the northern hemisphere, a layer of ice represents 20% of land surface. This is called permafrost, or permafrost in English. This term refers to soils frozen for at least two years, composed of frozen water, minerals and organic matter.
The problem is that these floors would also enclose carbon and high-dose mercury , and that all of this could soon escape into the atmosphere. We explain why in the video at the top of this article.
